Effectiveness of a TANCS®-equipped steam vapor system for disinfection in a veterinary hospital
Schaumburg, IL — December 2014 — Using a VaporJet® steam vapor system from Advanced Vapor Technologies, researchers found the combination of TANCS® and superheated steam for a very short period (seconds) significantly reduced bacterial numbers on a variety of surfaces within a veterinary facility. In contrast, most chemical disinfectants require a contact time of 5 to 30 minutes to be effective, which researchers said would be an inconvenient amount of time in a busy veterinary hospital. In addition, unlike steam vapor, chemical disinfectants are potentially toxic to pets and personnel, emit offensive odors, and can corrode surface materials. Bacteria can also develop resistance to chemical disinfectants.
